Process: Wendellfully Rick
This piece was created as a tribute to the hit sci-fi-fi show, Rick and Morty on Adult Swim. Season 3 starts this Sunday and since Im india I won't get to see it on its premiere night. Ill just have to rip if off the internet later.. 1st world problems, amiright??
Anyway, heres the process and steps to my fan art featuring my creation, Wendell.
Step 1: Pencil sketch. I had a few iterations before this but this one was the most dynamic. As you can see I had already dragged it into Adobe Illustrator and started the Line work.
Step 2: Line work and color in Illustrator . Like my last piece, Thieves of Himachal, I used this method and it works great. But unlike the last piece I used my old ways of coloring it all in Illustrator for that cartoon look. It fits.
Step 3: Background. In the show, the portals are pretty 2 dimensional and I wanted to render them in a more "realistic" way so turned to Photoshop. This was where I brought in the finished main component from Illustrator as a PNG file and placed it in Photoshop, added a layer behind it, and painted the black space and portal background.
After some nitpicking with colors and brushes (still getting used to photoshop) and putting in the final touches like text. There you have it. This one took a bit longer than expected but was fun as hell. I wanted to take my time. My patients is definitely getting better.
A side note: The image on the left is from another version of R&M fan art from 2015 and this right, well this one. Vast improvement, more patience, and more of my style.
